This was one opportunity the elected government of Iraq to raise its head above the clouded dark ages from which they crawled from and show to the world they are in fact civilized.
They blew it
This was nothing more than a bunch of street thugs pulling a man off the street and lynching him....this certainly wasn't the act of a government sponsered execution. Saddam was tried and convicted in a court by their laws and as one voice in the video begged it was an execution and should be done with dignity.
Did he deserve to die? Yes, even those who are against capital punishment are for it in these circumstances.... we're talking crimes against humanity here.
Is the world a better place?? Yes again. We can rank him right up there with Hitler, Agusto Pinochet, Stalin and whoever is running the scene in Darfur.
There was an opportunity to heal the divisiveness within the country that Saddam brought. Ok, that's wishful thinking but at least it would have been the right thing to do and at the very least, an attempt.
That is why the official govt video did not have any sound.
Now that this new video is now in the public it has a very good potential to turn Saddam into a martyr.
Just what we need.
One more reason for the young of the country to willingly do a meet and greet with virgins in heaven.
