This gives a good example of the different layers of a thatched house. The outside is dried mud and is actually pretty hard. The insides are normally "plastered" and white washed.

This year is the 400th anniversary of the settlement of Jamestown. Since we were spending a few days in Richmond I thought this would be a nice day trip...maybe get a few photos and throw in some history as well.
