Aloha

What a long weekend. We left after Zachary got out of school Friday to head north for the family reunion. It's a bit different heading up there now and needing to stay in a hotel instead of traveling to Gouverneur. Zack has just a few more days of school and Friday is a half day then he's done til September.

He's keeping us busy this week with three games...tonight, Wednesday and Thursday. Amanda came back with us to stay a couple of weeks so she will get to see him play. He did a great job on his last game with THREE hits in a row. Wow, everybody was so cheering for him and he made it look like "what's the big deal?" lol The last game marked his 2nd, 3rd, and fourth hits.

We got our closing funds last week on the house sale so in the bank it went. I had to pay my Dad back for the bridge loan to get the painting contractor going (thanks Dad) and paying a couple of many bills and booked a trip for this Thanksgiving.

Wednesday November 21st we fly out of Philly with a layover in Minneapolis and another in Honolulu before we get to our final destination of The Big Island in Hawaii. We're spending 5 nights at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort. The Big Island has a very diverse climate ranging from snow skiing on the mountain to rainforests before you get to the ocean, and everything in between.

A couple things on our to do list is to see the volcano and to take a submarine tour. We will book those as we go. Oh, and I think we will be shipping lots of Kona coffee home. mmm mmm 2nd only to Jamaican Blue Mountain.

Assume that there will be lots of photos.

Stuff

The gas price wheel of fortune was spun once again today and yes, another new record!!! All we need is Chuck Woolery to complete the picture.

$3.21 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline....wow.

If I remember correctly last year the highest price went to $3.04 so question is where do we go from here?

Economies of the world keep growing. When someone becomes more affluent or at least is welcomed into the middle class with increasingly open arms one thing for certain is to happen. Forget the death and taxes speach, one thing that always happens when one makes more money....one spends more money.

Take 31 year old Xiang who until four years ago lived in rural Guangxi Province in China. Xiang was a farmer and one of the top carpenters in his village. Desiring a better life for himself and his future bride he left the village for more opportunities he hoped to find in metropolitan Wuhan, a city of some 7,000,000 people.

Xiang went from farmer/carpenter to working in a worksop making furntiure. He found himself quite skilled then others and soon he moved up to master carpenter. Today Xiang and his wife of three years and their daughter have a combines household income 15 times that he was earning as a farmer.....and consequently

he buys stuff.

since he has more money than before, Xiang has more stuff, Xiang buys more stuff. The stuff Xiang and others like him come from factories that put out more stuff than the year before cause there are more people than last year who want stuff.

Alot of stuff

Think of yourself and what were to happen to you if you suddenly earned 50% more in your job. How would you spend it? Or...would it be saved?

So, as economies of the world expand thereby advancing people up in class and giving them the opportunity to have more stuff than before, they will elect to have the stuff, the stuff they couldn't have before.

More and more people getting more and more stuff.

Problem is, the energy that went into making that stuff is not keeping up with demand and how high will the price of gas go before you start buying stuff???

That's the magical question. How much pain will be felt before the average person will cut back on stuff. Consider paying $4 per gallon of gas this time next year (an economic downturn notwithstanding). Is it $4 or perhaps $5 when you cringe so much your teeth start to crack??

Baseball

I have annointed myself as team photographer for Zachary's baseball team. I have stopped using Yahoo photos as my photo repository as they will be shutting it down soon so I swithched to photobucket and started an album there for the photos of the kids.

The only problem is the url address is l o n g

So I started another blog here on blogger and so far I have 5 slideshows and a link to the photobucket album. There are pics of the whole team, although you may see one or two of Zachary the photos are mostly action shots and Zachary hasn't mastered batting yet :) and plays outfield so let's just say he gets bored easily.

Waiting...

Ever find yourself waiting for the phone to ring...waiting for some news?? lol

Still waiting, not so patiently for a closing date. The house has been re inspected and the file should have been turned over to my attorney. I do know the pay off figure has been requested sooooo....

still waiting.

I got Shelly a nice mothers day gift. Saturday I picked up tickets to Nickelback along with Staind and Daughtry who are touring with them this time. The concert is at Hershey Park and they don't have numbered seating for the floor. Damn, cause we would have had very good seats. We have to go to a certain area at a certain time and get wrist bands, then they draw a number and then start the entry based on the no. wrist band you have.

House Before and After

Well, almost $6000 later the house is all painted and awaiting the reinspection. In hindsight we could have done this last fall and sold the house for another $10k.....maybe

The pictures are from 2002 and this past weekend.

Knock on wood but I hope that is the last time I see a moving truck. The next time we will hire someone to move us all in one shot.

We should know in the next couple of days when the closing will be.
